Yakovenko spent over a decade as a software engineer at Qualcomm before pivoting to cryptocurrency in 2017. He published the original Solana whitepaper introducing Proof of History — a novel consensus mechanism using cryptographic timestamps to enable high transaction throughput. Solana Labs was founded with Raj Gokal and other co-founders in 2018.
